By the Numbers Or, Why I'm So Tired

The past month has been pretty crazy:

  • I went to three tennis tournaments: Citi Open in Washington, DC, Rogers Cup in Toronto, and the Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati, Ohio.
  • I spent seven full days sitting outside watching tennis. (Basically The Dream! But it was very very very hot.)
  • I worked 17 days.
  • I drove 8+ hours to upstate New York and back.
  • I rode 3.5+ hours from upstate New York to Toronto and back.
  • I drove 8+ hours to Cincinnati, Ohio and back.
  • I drove 2+ hours to and from work each of those 17 days.
  • I went to Chincoteague for one of my "weekends".
  • I had writing group one Friday afternoon.
  • I entered #Pitchwars online, a writing contest.
  • I read and/or listened to six books.
No wonder I'm tired:) But happy and fulfilled!

Book Boos: July

Oops, it's almost August you say? My bad! I've been very very busy, but here is what I read in July!

6. ZENITH Part One of The Adroma Saga by Sasha Alsberg and Lindsay Cummings. This kind of has to be in 6th place since it's just part one in the book...and the authors just announced it's going to be a print book now and we have to wait awhile for it. Blah. I've never been a space opera fan (what does that even mean??), but I was intrigued by the world created in this book and by the characters and look forward to what else happens.

5. HEIR OF FIRE by Sarah J. Maas. (Audio/Print) Pretty much just chose randomly for spots one through five because everything was so good. I really liked HEIR OF FIRE...like, really really liked it. Getting to learn more about who Celaena is and then being introduced to Rowan and getting to enjoy that relationship as they fight and grow closer was a treat. I don't want to say too much for fear of spoilers, but the focuses in this story are awesome.

4. I'M THINKING OF ENDING THINGS by Iain Reid. My friend highly recommended this book and she was right, it's so good! I'm not the type of reader who tries to figure out the twists in a book, I like to be surprised, as the author intends. Without saying too much, Reid does a great job of misleading the reader;)

3. IVORY AND BONE by Julie Eshbaugh. (ARC) This book is so unique and unlike anything I've read in the past few years. I thoroughly enjoyed it and literally could not put it down- it was almost addicting! The story is told from one character to another and I loved trying to gauge when the stories would catch up with each other. So wonderful! Read this one! Also, buy this one because isn't that cover amazing!?

2. QUEEN OF SHADOWS by Sarah J. Maas. (Audio/Print) Obviously this book was amazing. I listened to this on my incredibly brutal drive to and from upstate New York, which was a great idea because it made the time pass a little more quickly! Again, can't say too much without giving anything away, but I will say I'm glad EMPIRE OF STORMS has a "mature content" warning..although, warning is the wrong word. It should come with a mature content high five!

1. OUTLANDER by Diana Gabaldon. (Audio/Print) I know, I know, I should have read this years ago, but I'm kind of glad I never did because it meant I got to picture Sam Heughan as Jamie Fraser and that was a beautiful, beautiful thing! This book is epic and amazing, but I already knew that going in. I love the show, I love Scotland, and I love sexy historical fiction. Oh, and I love James Fraser. *swoon*
