My List

I know a lot of people think I am crazy for loving Fall and Winter so much and disliking Spring and Summer. Here are my reasons why:

Fall/Winter Loves:
  • snow is so pretty
  • easier for my hair to look good (no humidity)
  • better clothes! I love sweaters! and layers!
  • tights
  • no pastels
  • beautiful leaves in the fall
  • boots
  • cashmere
  • my birthday
  • can wear more makeup
  • scarves
  • santa

 Spring/Summer Dislikes*:
  • allergies. OMG they're the worst. this should be X 100.
  • sweating
  • melting makeup
  • frizzy hair
  • pastels
  • people wear way too little clothing
  • beer warms up too quickly
  • I'm not in school anymore so no summer break
  • seeing people's feet

*This doesn't include the beach or pool. I LOVE the beach and pool! More than most people...and I know that's confusing for someone who wants it to be 20 degrees, but in the middle of August when it's 100 degrees, I can't be at the beach 24/7. Going to work and sweating on the way is horrible. I'd rather it be cold.

Read My Mind

I am a big fan of teen books. I know some people scoff at my loving them and act like I am not reading "real" books, but to them I say, "You're the one missing out." There are exquisite gems in the teen section of books. Some of my favorite books I have ever read are categorized for "young adults".

My favorites are the love stories. There is something so sweet and exciting to read about first loves. I got sick of reading stories about adult women who were either cynical or going through a divorce. In teen novels you get to experience the joy and simplicity of a first love.

Some of my favorite books are ones I have read in the past year or so:

Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater: When I finished Shiver I immediately ordered a copy to be sent to my sister. This book took my breath away.

All Unquiet Things by Anna Jarzab- The depth of characters in this book and the pain that was translated through the words was so exceptional. I was incredibly impressed by this book.

Delerium by Lauren Oliver- I was lucky enough to get an Advanced Reader Copy of this and was SO EXCITED because I loved her first book. This book is about love, but the type you discover as the main character does, too.

Have you read any of these?

SVR

Colder Than The Coldest Winter Was Cold

Writing Prompt: The Smells Of Winter

This morning I walked outside at 630am and was greeted by chilly air and the reminder that all is right in the world. The air was cold and I could smell winter. It didn't smell like snow, but it was that beautiful, refreshing non-odor that accompanies only the coldest of temperatures. I slowed my steps on my way to my car to fully enjoy it. I was bundled up so the cold didn't get to me, but even if it had, I like to soak it up while I can. Some people turn their heads toward the sun to soak up its warmth, but not me. I'm a slave to frigid temperatures. I want to wear two sweaters and a scarf. And gloves, and maybe even a hat. I want my nose to get cold and my breath to be seen in the air. Sometimes I drive with my windows down for as long as I can stand it. If I'm not worried about staying warm, then it's not cold enough.

XO,
SVR
