Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)

I have a long day ahead of me: Work 7-330 and then off to Richmond for a little bit of this and a little bit of that. But all is good for Team Scarlet as I've got my boos working with me and a fun evening planned:)

Hope everyone has a grand Saturday!

Change Clothes

I find that when I choose my outfit in the morning, I tend to think ahead to who I may run into during the day. A day where I work with random people? Choose a more boring outfit. A day when I work with friends and may go out after work? Something a little funkier and more put together.

And it's not guys of whom I am thinking. Sure I sometimes want to look hotter for certain guys when they're around, but it's not like I thought today, "Hmmmm, the light brown skirt, I hope So-and-so likes it!" but I did think, "Hmmm, I havn't worn this before. Am I wasting it on today?"

I am such a dork. I should just wear stuff when I want to wear it. Back when I worked in the office, I always looked cuter on staff meeting days when the entire company would see me. On days when most people were out of the office? Nothing special was worn by me.

But I also had the realization that maybe this is why it takes me so long to get ready some days. Like today, I picked out what is a comfortable, new, and (I think) cute outfit and then had the dreadful, "Am I wasting it on today?" thought. But today, unlike some other days, I told myself, "Bitch, just wear it!" and came out to blog about it instead. So to summarize:
1. Just wear it.
2. If you go to blog about it, you're going to end up just as late as if you had changed outfits 4 times.
3. Idiot

And Your Bird Can Sing

So You Think You Can Dance?

Well, let's jump right into it, shall we!?

Sara and Jesus krumping:

I still don't even know what krumping is. And Lil' C..who? Anyway, I thought this dance was hott. I love how badass Sara is and this song is hard and hott as well. Sometimes the moves for the krumping or hip hop routines seem super cliche and cheesy, but I thought this routine did a good job at (now it's in my head and I have to say it) keeping it real.

Shauna and Cedric dancing contemporary:

Nothing like hearing, "The stakes are high!" right before you dance, eh? I think the judges were right on with their analysis of this routine. Mia Michaels definitely choreographed something that was perfect for them, which showcased what Shauna can do and hid what Cedric can not. I think Shauna is really good, although her flinging blonde hair distracts me. Cedric's fake crying was also a bit much for me, too.

Lacey and Kameron dancing the quick step:

Yeah, I usually dread when this dance is chosen because it can be almost painful to watch. I think they did a great job with it and the choreography was finally something more exciting than just the couples running around the stage (nevermind if that's what the dance should be.) I also really liked Lacey's dress! Benji is such a dork screaming from the audience, by the way.

Anya and Danny dancing hip hop:

I actually thought they looked off in this routine. I think he did a good job, but after the introduction when Anya said it was difficult for her to count the routine, it was all I could think about as they danced and I felt like she didnt really feel it as well as he did. The flip over her arm thing was way cool, though. I expected the judges to be harsher with them.

Sabra and Dominic dancing the rumba:

Wowzers was this dance smokin'! It cracks me up that they danced to the Pussycat Dolls. I also was a little worried the judges would say they didn't dance enough and just posed, but then I realized that I don't even know what makes a rumba the dance that is is. They hit some spectacular poses, moves, and lines, though. I loved the smile they let out when they knew they had hit that difficult move at the end:)

Lauren and Neil dancing the tango:

I think her dress detracted from the dance. It was just too much. The use of the chairs at the beginning of the dance was very cool and I think they did a good job, but it was just missing something. Some parts seemed super awkward on his part and then she seemed overdressed for the cool things she was doing. And they kept describing it as a cat and mouse dance, but I saw none of that in the choreography. The ending was super cool.

Jaimie and Hok dancing jazz:

Holy shite was this dance amazing! Wade is hella good. And to use this amazing piece of music performed by, and correct me if I'm wrong, Itzhak Perlman that is exquisite. This is yet another dance made perfectly for who performed it. I love Hok's quirky little movements that were just like a hummingbird and how Jaimie seemed to stand so tall, like a flower. LOVES IT!

Pasha and "Bette Midler" dancing the cha cha:

Can I tell you how much I loved it when the lights were set on Pasha and his new partner for the night. This woman had balls to get out there and do that even if she is a choreographer dancer already. Pasha's a hott dancer and he has that awesome little move he can do with his hips-smokin'! I wonder how much they changed of the routine once they found out Jessi couldn't peform because they definitely didn't do all of the lifts and stuff. Melanie and Pasha did get pretty sensual, though, which I'm sure she was excited about...I know I would have been.

One other thing...Who let that girl who was continually behind Cat Deely in the upper stand area wear that shirt with what had to have been bra straps? Fashion Police No No!

As for who is sleeping with who...I'm actually not sure yet, but I would venture a guess that Lauren and Neil are. Serena and Allie disagreed because of the lack of passion in their tango, but I referenced Friends when Chandler is afraid Kathy is cheating on him. Joey points out that if there's no chemistry on stage, then they're obviosuly sleeping together...I rest my case.

Stare

I tried to go on a photo field trip today around Fauquier County, but during my drive down Spring Road it started raining. No, pouring. It lightened and then stopped as I got to Main Street in Warrenton, so I parallel parked and began to walk around, forcing myself to try to see things different so I would get some good shots.

Then it started raining again.

So now I am in Pantera Bread trying quite unsuccessfully to upload my pictures via their free wireless connection. It is not working very well and I'm about to give up and head home. Why is it so difficult for me to get pictures online?!

If I'd Found The Right Words To Say

It's not selfish to live the way you want to live; it's only selfish if you're trying to force other people to live that way, too. If someone looks askance at your choices, remind yourself that you're hurting no one.

I know it means nothing to anyone else (except for fellow Aquarians), but my horoscopes have been incredibly on lately and I feel the need to share.

Cheer

My official picks for Wimbledon 2007 are:

Tim Henman

Maria Sharapova

Now, these are who I want to win and not to be confused with who I think will win.

Dissident Aggressor

Back in the day, I wrote a lot of Livejournal/Blogger posts that were extremely cryptic and seemingly talked in circles. Even though they probably made little sense to anyone who happened to read them, they helped me to think through things that were going on. I've already done my Blogography so I won't get into the details at this point, but in the past my blogs tended to be about two things: nights out and unrequited love. And we're talking college here and the few years after so don't go into the SVR archives trying to read between the lines. SVR is probably the most well-rounded blog I have, if that makes any sense.

So why am I bringing this up? Well, because I have no idea what to write about anymore. I want to use this forum as a place to think through things, but I feel like I can't. It's not that I want to put certain thoughts out there for anyone in Internetland to read, but since I am never going to be the type to grab a pen and write in a journal, this is as good a place as any to organize my thoughts....or, to be honest, to sometimes bitch about stuff that pisses me off.

What I don't want this to turn into is a blog of passive aggressiveness. I think that any blog, unless extremely anonymous, that makes complaints about anyone except for the writer his/herself is being passive aggressive on some level. It's like emailing your significant other to break up. You can put it out there, but you can't say it to their face.

So if I'm not posting Top 7.5 lists of things that piss me off and relaying why I was angry, I'm left with blogging about So You Think You Can Dance? and what movie or CD I most recently saw or heard. And that's fine, I like to blog about those things and it's probably more interesting to anyone who stops by anyway, but you are so only getting a sliver of what's going on in the life of me. I guess if you really want to know the whole story of SVR, we're going to have to talk elsewhere:) Or maybe you could just text me, haha.

Grazed Knees

My knee hurts like a bitch. Everytime I bend it I want to yell an expletive and cry a little. I have no idea what happened either. Earlier today I noticed a little twinge of pain when I kneeled down to get something and since that time it has gotten progressively worse. I really thought I was going to be stuck in my car all night because getting out of it required bending my leg. But I was thirsty, so I mustered up my courage, bent my leg and made it into my house. Slowly.

Most of me knows that I'll be okay in the morning and it was just some weird thing that happened, but a tiny part of me keeps imagining myself waking up with a knee the size of a watermelon. So, if you don't hear from me for a few days, it's because I couldn't get out of my bed and am in my room yelling out for help.

XO,
SVR

***UPDATE*** So I'm up. It's not a watermelon, but it's also not free of pain, either:( Despite the title of the post, I didn't scrape it up, it just started to hurt mysteriously. It hurts a lot to go up and down stairs.

Here

I am antsy to the max!

If someone called me right now, I would be in my car and on my way before they finished saying, "hello."

It was a nice day off today. I got up with no alarm set, had a crunchy peanut butter and jelly sandwich and then headed to Culpeper for Target and picture taking. I ended up by their Masonic meeting place and for a brief moment thought the man staring at me was burning my image into his retinas in order to make me disappear later. My interest in the fraternal order and their location may have seemed fishy to someone with traditions to hide;)

With a storm on the horizon I settled in to watch the first two episodes of Rome. No one warned me about all the nudity and el sexo scenes. Holy hell. I like it so far, though. Nothing is on TV now, hence my antsiness. I have a big day planned for tomorrow, full of tennis, swimming, and dinner out. I'll let you know how it goes.

Movie Clock Star

So I can finally stop saying that the last movie I saw in the theatre was Talladega Nights. I can't even remember when that was out, but since I already own it on DVD, I know it's been awhile.

I went after work today to see Knocked Up, which I absolutely loved. I had heard it was not a chick flick, but when the plot revolves around a woman who is preggers, it's hard to believe such a statement. It is definitely a movie for the masses, though. I was not deceived. Even the Miracle of Life moment at the end was kinda funny. I laughed so much that I forgot I wasn't just sitting in my den watching the movie alone. And not just at the obviously funny parts, but the parts that reminded me of other situations and inside jokes with other friends. So, I basically just laughed for two hours. Totally worth the $7. The "Pibb X-tra" was good, too;)

Which, BY THE WAY, how are matinees $7 these days? Totally reminded me why the last movie I saw was months ago...those evenings are expensive!

Dancing Shoes

It is way too early to begin speculating on who is sleeping with who, so for now, my So You Think You Can Dance (SYTYCD) reviews will have to be mostly about the dancing…and any other comments I feel like throwing out there.

A few thoughts before I review the pairs. One, Mary Murphy really needs to get laid and two, the storm caused the TV to go out for about 30 minutes and I’m not sure what I missed.

Lacey/Kameron/Contemporary: I do not like the moves when she looks like a dead, flopping fish. And I also do not like the moves where their arms look like they were electrocuted. What I do like is when she was seemingly flying through the air and bouncing off of him and the floor. I am a sucker for these contemporary dances.

Sabra/Dominic/Disco: I think it is incredibly tough to make the disco dances not just look like super cheese. They did an okay job. I found the best parts to be the lifts, spins, positions, and solo parts. Anytime they danced together I thought it was just “eh.”

Ashlee/Ricky/Argentine Tango: Um, he likes math, therefore I love him. That said, it is kind of an odd pairing since she is noticeably taller than him in heels. I think they do a mediocre job. Many of the moves are totally smokin’, but they did not connect the sexy moves together well enough. Poor Ashley, though, with Nigel saying she looks “so much bigger.” We all know what he means, but come on, buddy, phrase it differently!

Sara/Jesus/Pop Jazz (?): I love his choreography! I think this is one of the best routines of the night. Incredibly entertaining. I was worried the judges would pick on their synchronicity, but I think they were together more than they were off and it was a difficult routine.

Jessi/Pasha/Smooth Waltz: Vomit on song choice (Norah Jones). For a boring dance, I think they do a good job at making it seem very fluid and smooth. Although, her lack of pointing her foot keeps distracting me-Am I imagining that? Because no one points it out. (Haha, get it? “points”.)

Faina/Cedric/Hip Hop: I know nothing about hp hop except for knowing when they are not together in their moves. Cedric is very tall and lanky and I think that sometimes it made them seem more off than they really were. Unfortunately for this group, the song didn’t help them out at all. Eh, it was so-so.

Lauren/Neil/Salsa: I like these two. They looked to be a bit tired and I really wasn’t feeling Neil’s dancing until the end when they did those side-by-side steps. Until then he seemed more like a prop/flinger for Lauren, but he showed he can do the moves, too.

Shauna/Jimmy/Broadway: Broadway looks exhausting. They do a great job with facial expressions, but I can never really get into these Broadway dances. They bore me. Maybe because I am not a big fan of the music.

The following two couples are the ones I missed because of my TV going out. Please submit a review if you saw it!

Jaimie/Hok

Anya/Danny

Until next week!

Sex Sells And (Unfortunately) I'm Buying

I certainly wouldn't kick Matthew McConaughey out of bed, but do I think he should be People Magazine's Bachelor of the Year? Hells to the naw. I have to say I was a bit surprised when I headed to CNN.com and saw that he had gotten top honors...although, now that I think of it, to qualify as a "bachelor" does one need only not be married? Is a male not considered if in a serious relationship? Because really, any of the following would have made for a fine choice as Bachelor of the Year:

  • Brad Pitt (my love)
  • Justin Timberlake (People magazine is for old people and I think they should stop choosing people from the geriatric farm...suri, Matthew.)
  • Clive Owen (Sure, he didn't do too much last year and is never in the gossip magazines, but he is smokin' hott.)
  • Johnathan Rhys Meyers (So hott that I overlook the fact that he's Irish.)
  • Leonardo Dicaprio (Did you see The Departed? Enough.Said. And really, I'm still in love with him from Romeo & Juliet. Suck it.)
  • Who Would You Like To See On The Cover?

Overdue

I worked for five summers at a pool so for me not to have even touched chlorinated water yet this summer* is weird. I used to live at the pool. I would get there at 8am to vacuum the pool, then run swim practice until 11, then work until 7 or 8 and then run swim practice until 9pm. And on days when I didn't have swim practice, I would either be at a swim meet or giving swim lessons.

It is June 13th and I have yet to go to a pool. I wish I lived at an apartment complex with a pool. I would never leave it!

*Er, spring. Once it's hot out, it's summer in my opinion.

A Rush Of Blood To The Head

Pollen got the best of me last night. After paying our respects and saying goodbye to Serena's Sidekicks (more on this later) out in nature, I was done for. Drinking beer seemed to help a little, but once I left Allie's I was miserable from the constant feeling like I was going to sneeze. I hate to sneeze.

It has also left me with an awesome headache. I am hoping it goes away by 3pm, which is when my orchestra concert is. At least the concert is not in nature, eh?

Elevator

It was one of those moments where we just knew no one would really believe our story or maybe the hidden camera crews would jump out and yell, "You're on Candid Camera!" You know, if that show was still on the air.

So my mom and I went to visit my grandmother at her nursing home this morning before meeting up with my grandfather for lunch. Well, we ended up stopping back by to bring her a Sprite Zero before rushing out of town to beat the traffic. Needless to say, we were in a hurry as we ran in and headed for the elevators to take us to the second floor. (Note: We actually ran to the stairs first, but those required a special code to get into. Seems weird, eh?) Well, instead of just pushing the "UP" button and going on our way, we found ourselves in the midst of what can only be described as a caravan of wheelchairs.

One nurse guiding about five old ladies (four in chairs and one walking) into the elevator that only ended up holding the nurse and two old ladies. So there we are, my mom and I, left standing there with these old ladies scooting themselves around in their wheelchairs and the one on foot saying, "I don't know where I'm going." Thank goodness my mom was there because she took charge and when the next car opened, she began wheeling them in, trying to fit three chaired women, one old woman on foot, me and my mom. Once I was in, and was holding the "Door Open" button, my mom decided that we could only fit two wheel chairs and the Lost Woman so she sent us on our way up one floor.

Old people don't scare me, especially these adorable old women because I recognize them from visiting my grandmother, but what does scare me a little are failing hearts and blood clots to the brain that coincide with elevators breaking down. I know, I know...it was one floor and barely enough time for anything to happen but I couldn't stop the thought from briefly entering my mind.

After reconnecting with my mom on the second floor we jetted off to deliver the soda to my grandmother so we could head out of town. My mom told me that as she backed the last old lady in the wheel chair into the elevator more had started scooting around the corner to make the trip back upstairs. My mom, with time on the brain, had to enforce a cut-off point in the line for the elevator and leave the rest of the scooting old ladies downstairs to wait for the next car.

Once we were back in our car and headed out of the parking lot we looked at each other and said, "Did that just happen?"

Everything In Its Right Place

When there are certain things you hate, like Sousa marches and hot weather, it is amazingly refreshing to have a moment where their first cousins combine to create what can only be described as perfection. After an intense orchestra rehearsal that began with me going through the motions and ended with me ready and willing to play beyond our 930pm stop time, I headed outside to head home.

Dvorak's New World Symphony was still occupying my brain as I checked my phone for new texts and saw the first droplet of rain plop down on my phone. I may loathe summertime because of the intense heat, but oh how I love its nights when it's both warm and cool at the same time. Tonight there was a breeze and I wished to be sitting on a porch at the beach. Then the rain started plopping down with a higher frequency and, despite my hair getting wet, I slowed down to enjoy it. There's something so great about cool rain when it's warm.

Then I got to my car, only to be welcomed by the song I had been listening to just two and a half hours earlier: Radiohead's "Motion Picture Soundtrack".....I think you're crazy...

Talk about perfection.

Need Some Air

I'm on a wire to see your star shine

By 1 am last night I thought to myself, "Do they have anything else to play?" Black Rebel Motorcycle Club played a kick-ass* show last night at the 930 Club. They played for at least two hours and even though I was exhausted and hurting by the end of it, it was well worth it. I think BRMC is the type of band where you need to be familiar with them before you see them live. I think Ali was bored out of her mind and also a little scared of the "geriatric farm" as she called it. I, personally, was grateful the crowd was not like the one that had been at The Faint earlier in the week. Even though it was a tight fit up front and hot as balls, I didn't have little drug-influenced teens dancing all up on my junx.

I got some good pics, too, but those will have to go up later as the ol' dial up is not the way to go for uploading. Here is my thought of the day, though: How do bands play in sweatshirts and jackets? And how can they stand to have their hair all over their faces? Riddle me that.

XO,
SVR

*I thought so, at least.
