Demon Barber Of Fleet Street

I saw Sweeney Todd last night. I wasn't sure going into to it because I am very picky when it comes to musicals*, but since so many people had raved about it, I figured it would be good.

Well...it wasn't terrible, I will give it that. But it also wasn't "amazing" as I had been told from a variety of people. The thing about musicals is that they are cheesy. The man sings to his knives-it's odd. And when people get upset, they go outside and walk down the street singing. It's difficult for me to suspend reality and not think, "Why aren't people yelling at him to shut up?!"

I did really like Sacha Baron Cohen's character and also thought Alan Rickman was awesome, but he just needs to talk and he is great. I think Johnny Depp did a good job, but not an Oscar-winning type job. Helena Bonham-Carter did well, too.

Have you see it? Thoughts? Do you agree or disagree with me?

XO,
SVR

*Yes to Cabaret and Chicago, NO to Hairspray and anything overly cheesy.
