This I Love

For the first time in my life, I went to see a movie on Thanksgiving Day. Ali and I saw Twilight.

Ummmm, <3.

More on this later*. I'm freezing down here where my laptop is**.

*One might think, "why write anything at all?"
**Aren't laptops mobile? Yes. Yes they are. But dial up phone cords are not. Welcome to my life.

November Hotel

My roommates are out of town for the week so last night, when I got home, I decided to sleep upstairs. I just couldn't face the cold, clothes-covered bed in my own room even though it is incredibly comfortable. So instead, I slept upstairs and it was kind of like being in a hotel for a night! I slept differently, yet deeply, and had crazy dreams all night long it seemed. And then the light from the skylight woke me up so I turned over and put the covers over my head to get some more zzzzs.

It was nice. I've always loved sleeping in hotels.

Something Anything

You know what I'm bad at (don't really answer): updating this blog.

You know what I'm good at (and I'm not talking about what's written in the mens' bathroom): lists.

+ Two weekends ago we went Cabining for Serena's birthday. Except for the unwanted early wake up time, it was better than I expected. And I only say that because close quarters are sometimes not ideal. It worked out, though, and I would venture to say that Serena had a good time, which is most important.

+ This past weekend ended up being great even though it began with no plans at all. Friday night Ali and I hit up Happy Hour (*love*) and were later joined by Brendan and then Serena. I pounded five beers and then we changed location where I had one more. Love me some beer. I had to work the next morning, but really, what's a Saturday shift at work when I am not exhausted?

+ After work I uploaded pictures while waiting to leave for the Wine Party that Nina and Patty were having. The party was so much fun! I love how we started out the evening feeling like adults while discussing the wine and ended with Randi schooling us all on Janet vs Michael Jackson dance moves. Somehow I managed to stay awake until the wee hours of the morning to fully maximize my awesome Saturday night.

+ Sunday was the day I had been looking forward to: my day off. I slept in, shopped a little, relaxed, and then dozed off and on until the game started. I can't believe the Redskins didn't win. I also can't believe the commentator made an opera reference.

+ What else is going on...let' see...Tomorrow we're having sectionals in orchestra and I have not played for two weeks. I usually have very good luck with killing it when I need to, but this time is a little different as my part is beyond difficult because I don't have an A clarinet and don't know anyone who has one for me to borrow.

+ At the moment I am trying to find the perfect picture of me with bangs in order to email a friend to get his opinion. My hair is super long right now and my bangs are about to chin level, but I miss them. What do you think? Just kidding, not that one...how about this one? Ok now for real: what do you think?

+ The last CDs I have purchased are: Kings Of Leon, Eagles Of Death Metal, Goldfrapp, Mark Lanegan, Travis, and Snow Patrol. Given to me were Black Angels and Gutter Twins. #1 on the new Kings Of Leon is amazing.

+ I love that it's finally getting cold out.

Down In The Dark

Today is Serena's birthday- HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SERENA! To celebrate her birthday, she wanted to rent a cabin in Harper's Ferry so that's what we're doing this Saturday. It occurred to me that over half of the people going Twitter, so I thought it might be interesting to create a feed for the weekend.

And here it is:

Trip To The Cabin.

Okay, I don't know why it's not working. I'm annoyed. I need my personal assistant to come fix it.

The Beginner

I wasn't sure what to blog about...I was only sure what not to blog about (politics), so I grabbed a CD near me to be inspired by the title. What I grabbed was a random "New Noise: EMI New Music Sampler" CD and first saw the song, "The Beginner" by Miranda Lee Richards. Um, no idea, but what the hell:

I wish I wasn't a beginner at the guitar. I used to take guitar lessons and got to be so-so at it. I was always quite frustrated because I'm good at the clarinet so I get impatient and want to be immediately good at other instruments. I had no trouble learning the flute or the baritone or any of the other band type instruments I have attempted, but the guitar...oh, the guitar. It's almost like the piano for me where I am good when I am around middle C, but once I need to branch out, I lose it. With the guitar, I'm fine when I play the basic chords, but once it gets more complex, I lose it.

I know the problem, though-practice makes perfect. I don't want to dedicate the time to getting better at the guitar. I want to be good now. It's boring for me to play simple music because I'm used to play the top stuff on the clarinet. And I get both inspired and frustrated when I hear my friend play his crazy stuff on the guitar. I at the same time want to be as good and realize I'll never reach that level.

Oh guitar!

Electioneering

So tomorrow is election day.

I wish that meant the end to the annoying comments, but I know that much of tomorrow and the days following will be dedicated to it all. No matter who wins, there's going to be never ending analysis and uproar from the opposite side.

But first...it's the Redskins vs the Steelers game on.

Redskins in the Super Bowl, bitches!
