People Are Strange

I seem to remember asking "why?" a lot as a kid. I always wanted to know about things and how and why they work the way they do. I was quiet and shy, but my inquisitive nature won out when I wanted to know something. And I remember reading all the freaking time. Not only novels that I would read while holed up under the kitchen table, but also encyclopedia sets and our Webster's Reference Dictionary that my grandfather had given us.

As I have gotten older, I think my tendency to ask "why?" has morphed into my need to understand people and their actions. I pride myself on being perceptive so when I am incorrect, it bothers me. I don't claim to understand everyone and their actions, but I can at least usually figure out the why and rationalize what's going on.

And I must have one of those black and white minds because I don't like ambiguity*. I always liked math more than english because in math, you always get the same answer**, while in english things just seemed so hazy and I hated that.

So, I'm trying to figure things out. Remember how I said I was so in my head the other day? Well, I will be until I start to understand a little clearer.

XO,
SVR

*Unless it's my own doing. Then I love it!

**Do NOT be a nerdbomber and counter this. Thankyou.

hahaha I like that disclaimer you gave.

I was just about to refute your argument, but decided it was best not to.

I do understand though, the reliability of math. I just don't like being wrong, which is why english is so great. There is rarely a wrong answer!

I think of myself as very perceptive, too, and hate it when I'm wrong reading a person. I so rarely am, and it totally knocks down my batting average.

When my kids were in the Why Stage (as I called it) I used to say "why not?" No doubt this irritated them to pieces but it somehow forced them to come up with the answer(s) while I sat back and watched them figure things out! Good ol' lazy parenting? shhh, don't tell anyone!

I'm kind of the same way. But my asking "why" and wanting to know just comes from being nosey. I HAVE to know everything!
