It's no secret I love the September issues of the fashion magazines. I've talked about it before and just knowing how excited I am for the start of fall, it's fitting for me to also be excited for the clothing that comes with the temperature drop. I'm reading September Vogue right now and am on about page 50 of advertisements and am in pure heaven. A lot of people complain about the number of ads in the magazines these days, yet here I am, completely content with my 754 page Vogue, of which probably over half are advertisements. Advertisements aren't just about products anymore, though. Oftentimes, and especially in fashion magazines, they are about art. The shot is as much about the fashion as it is about the photography. Combining two of my favorite things? Fashion and Photography? Sounds like a winner to me.
Here is something I do not think I have revealed before. There are often department store sponsored collections presented in the issues that run through the different designers often with a theme. For example, in September Vogue, Neiman Marcus has a 28 page spread with titles such as "Dark Victory," "Spectrum," and "Icon" and feature anyone who is anyone including Carolina Herrera (a personal favorite), Gucci, and Chloe. What I do with these, and I don't think I've told anyone this, is use them like flashcards. See, I try to first guess who the designer is before double-checking on the bottom of the page. I often am correct when it is Ralph Lauren or Dolce and Gabanna, but struggle with the other ones throughout the years as their looks change. It's a game to me and while I know it's a little fashion-dorky, it's fun to get them correct!
Back to Carolina Herrera. Holy hell those designs are exquisite. I sometimes can't get over how gorgeous they are so don't be surprised when I'm rich and famous and attending events if I wear her clothes for everything.

Hahaha. You are a dork. I have to tell you though:
1. I've always LOVED the ads and have contended that they help make the magazine. A good mag had good ads.
2. I've been dying for a huge ballroom skirt for years. One day I'm going to break down and buy one.
I think that's the most f*ing fabulous post I've ever read!
Is CH like the new channel?? That red dress....yum!
Bravo! Nice to know I'm not alone and you will be attending FAA meetings with me! (Fashion Addicts Annon)
I actually let my Vogue subscrip. lapse. I didn't like Vogue as much as I did Bazaar. I am in LOVE with Bazaar. I don't know how it happened, but it did. And I also picked up Elle's Sept issue, for the hell of it. I'm making my way through that as well.
I love fall.
Serena- I need to buy a new coat this year. A totally hott one.
Irish red- CH is so awesome. I am in awe of her designs.
Velvet- I read Bazaar and Elle, too! I can't wait for the weather to cool and the leaves to change.
This post made me want to go shopping.
I already made the mistake of browsing the Anthropologie website...
Once I wore a huge ballroom skirt to a dance and it was one of my favorite outfits ever. It's got such a girly twirly feeling!
Pink Is Neat- Oh, the Anthropologie catalogue is BAD for making me want new clothes. That and JCrew...oh man. I NEED TO GO SHOPPING!
AHH I hear you. I am a magazine fiend and a fashion fiend. :-) Fanntastttttic. I also love Carolina as well but my main man is definately Michael Kors although I have to say that Tom Ford when he was designing was my other main man as well. I heart Gucci.
fashion mags are my guilty pleasure too! what a great idea about the 'flash cards' oh man, i'm going to try that. what a great way to teach yourself to recognize the various elements of design that make a designer who they are
Kassyk- I tend to like the designers who's clothes I could wear everyday. A lot of the more out there designs are ones I like, but I know they'd have to be toned down if I, hypothetically, ever tried to wear them.
Connie- Yeah, it's fun! I love to get them correct.
I LOVE the fall fashion magazines too. I am so excited about fall. You can pull off so many cute outfits instead of doing the summer tank thing. I seriously can't wait! And you are right, Carolina Herrera is a GREAT designer and so is DVF (one of my alltime favorites!) Very classy and elegant clothing!
I play guess-the-designer too :) Glad to see I'm not alone!
I actually bought a Carolina gown this year...will be wearing it to a benefit in October. I will post photos for sure! :)
I totally didn't picture you as a fashionista. I expected you to be reading "Classical Music" magazine rather than "Vogue." But I guess September's issue of "Classical Music" is nothing to write home about.
