I got to hang out with Ali earlier. In a few days she will be 8 hours away again, though, and that makes me sad. We had a good time eating fried food and drinking beer while discussing Vampire Diaries and Lindsay Lohan's inevitable arrest.
It's not like we used to hang out all the time when she was in the area, but she's the easiest one to hang out with and to talk to and she always makes me laugh.
If I knew how to clone people, Ali, Robert Pattinson and I would hang out all the time.

Southern Belle
I've been up to a lot recently. Read about it...here:
I visited my younger sister, Ali, in Charleston, SC a couple weeks ago. She recently moved there with her husband and I had such a fantastic time down there. It's quite different down there, I have to say. First of all, I knew it would be hot, but I was not ready for scorching. It's one thing (and entirely okay) to be wicked hot while at the beach, but when walking around downtown, I wanted to die. I've been in cool weather mode since well, forever. While melting in Charleston, we got some of the best pizza I have ever had in my life at Mellow Mushroom.
(Note: We took some home in a box. Not that there's any shame in finishing it off.)
It also rains a lot there, but the rain never messes up the plans. On the Sunday before I left, we planned to go to Isle Of Palms beach, but when we woke up, it was pouring. We decided to head out anyway, and by the time we arrived, it was nice out again.
I also felt like a Northerner there. Never before have I said I'm from Virginia and not felt like the Southern Belle* I am. I was pleasantly surprised that it was not the slow southern feel like it is in Tennessee where people walk and talk way slower than anyone from Northern Virginia. I actually was reminded a lot of Puerto Rico.

Going out at night in Charleston is a sport unto itself. Friday night we went to Bushido, which has been featured on the Travel Channel.
Nathaniel took on the challenge and after signing his waiver (yes) he ate the first five.

Luckily for us, and him, he decided to do half now and half later. We had big drinking plans and the guy at the table next to use finished all 10 and pretty much couldn't sit still or stop sweating. He also said he exploded in the bathroom. His words, most certainly not mine!
As I was saying, Friday night in Charleston I noticed that the girl uniform was short shorts, a fancy top, and heels. My finest moment of the evening was when we were leaving our parking spot and we overheard this guy on the phone say, "You just want to fuck her in the ass!" Anyone who listens to Elliott In The Morning should already know what I said, "Anal?" I can't describe the tone, but it was amazing.
Saturday nights have an entirely different girl uniform: dresses and heels. I felt quite out of place wearing jeans. I also felt out of place because I was not so drunk I couldn't stand anymore. Nor was I sitting on the sidewalk drunk texting or trying not to vomit. I was inside, having fun.

After the bars closed, we decided to go to a strip club so Silva directed us to The Southern Belle. Unfortunately, the cover was $20 and since I have no need to see naked ladies, there was no way I was going to pay that. Especially since we got there at 3am and they closed at 4. Um, no. Silva was disappointed:(
BUT did you know that in South Carolina you can buy beer at 3am!? I still can't get over that.
I was sad to leave Ali and Nathaniel. I miss my sister a lot.
I've been up to more than just going to South Carolina, but this post is forever long right now.

Via Chicago
I've been doing a lot of living lately, so while I have a ton of stuff to write about here, I'm just too busy to do so. You know what that means? A list!
+ Ali and I went to Chicago to see Nathaniel graduate from Navy basic training. I am so extremely proud of him and ecstatic to have him as my brother-in-law soon.
+We met Kristin, who is awesome and it was one of the best first meetings ever. It didn't hurt that she took us for wicked good pizza at the original Unos.
+I drove 14 hours straight on Sunday and my foot was sore for days. I'm kinda proud of it, though.
+I own a lot of DVDs. And CDs.

Up All Night
I had a fantastic weekend!
Actually, it's been pretty kick-ass since Wednesday when Ali and I went to the 930 Club to see The Presets. We danced our asses off and I promise to post pics as soon as I can.
Friday night Ali and I went to Richmond because for a school project she had to go somewhere that showed Russian culture. Ali, being the awesome person she is, found a Russian bar and I was more than happy to accompany here there. It took us forever to get down there in the abysmal Friday traffic on 95, but we made it to Sticky Rice before they stopped serving food and didn't even have to wait! I <3 Sticky Rice. I miss living two blocks from it. After dinner we went over to my brother's store, Turnstyle to say hello to him and Jobeth. We had missed art walk, but heard it was really good.
Jobeth warned us that Aurora, the Russian bar, gave her a hard time about dress code before so she and Jesse gave us business cards so we could name drop if we needed to. We were both wearing sneakers and I had jeans on so we were a little worried when we walked up to the door. Luckily, I didn't have to pull the "We're with WRIR" card and we were let in just fine. I saw what Jobeth meant, though, as 90% of the girls there were dressed to the nines. Some were down right trashy. One girl wore an extremely tight white (!!) dress that probably seemed like a good idea, but the execution was a little frightening. There were a lot of shiny dresses and all the girls were either wearing heels or were barefoot because they had taken their heels off*.
We got pictures of us drinking Russian beer and of the crowds for Ali's project and then headed out. We were there awhile and while we didn't get our dance on too much, I would definitely go back. The bartender remembered my first and last name even though I only got one beer. I was impressed.
Saturday I worked and then just headed home because I was tired and no one was really doing anything. I settled in to read some magazines and was watching Baby Mama on HBO** when I heard from Ali that she was considering going back down to Richmond to go to Jesse's party Bliss at the new club, Rendezvous on Broad Street in Richmond. She was going to wait for Nick to get off of work at about 1130pm and then head down there. I'm not sure why, but I agreed to go even though I was already tired and had to work at 9am the next day. My brother throws awesome events and it's good to support family so I went to sleep until Ali called me at about midnight to say she and Nick were on their way. I got there at about 1:40am and Ali and Nick walked in not long after. We had a lot of fun before the event was over at 3am. We danced it up and cheered on Jesse and Jobeth as they took turns spinning.
We had decided last minute that I should drive separately and it's a good thing I did. I left after the club closed and got home at about 445am...just in time for a couple hours of shut eye before I had to get up for work. Nick and Ali ended up hanging out with her friend Tim for a few more hours and got back way later than I did.
Today at work wasn't even as brutal as I expected it to be. I guess having fun brings on a different kind of tired:)
I hope you all had awesome weekends, too. I guess I should hope for you to have as awesome a family as I do since they were key parts of my great times.

**Horrible. Such a bad movie. I only made it about 30 minutes in. The jokes were obvious and forced.

Holiday
So as is the case with much of the world right now, the past couple of weeks have been jam packed with stuff to do! Here is a run down of what I have been up to:
+ Randi was gracious enough to host a holiday pot luck for us all on the 19th. I had worked all day and had to get back to work the next so I made a semi-early exit, but i had a ton of fun! Lots of people were there and her apartment turned Mary Poppins-esque fitting all of those people. I took bruschetta and crustinos. Oh and Yuengling.
+ Saturday the 20th was Ali's 22nd birthday! I worked all day (and boy was it crowded!) and then met up with her, Nathaniel, and Amira at P.F. Changs. What an awesome birthday dinner! Ali got scallops and shared (*love*) and we also had Tsaoting! (sp?) Our waiter was a hit, too, as he entertained us every time he came by.
+ Post dinner we headed to Hard Times for the drinking portion of the evening. You know when you get the perfect number of people together? Well, we did that. We pushed two tables together, got Ali in the middle and ordered. It was a lot of fun and I think she had a great time. We stalked the jukebox to request the first 13 songs as soon as the football game was over. Happy Birthday, Ali!!!!!
+ Christmas Eve I worked and then we all decided to head over for a drink after work. We ended up having a ton of fun and it was a slightly random group. I, as is expected, got way too tired so put off driving by watching Beautiful Girls with a friend and rang in* Christmas at midnight by dozing off after saying "Merry Christmas."
+ Do not fret, though, it was early and I got home before Santa came. Christmas was a lot of fun! For the first time in forever Ali and I stayed home the entire day. My parents went to visit the grandparents and Ali and I watched Burn After Reading and then way too many episodes of 17 Kids And Counting-those MFers are crazy and it's not for having that many kids.
+ Santa was kind to me, as always, and I was excited about the gifts I gave, too. My mom has been like a 10 year old with the iPod shuffle I gave her and I warned my dad I might steal the Chris Cooley pennant I gave him.
+ In other news, I'm watching a friends cat, which yes, should strike you as weird since I hate cats. Luckily, it's on my way to work and the cat likes to hide.
+ I finally saw Casino Royale last night and I really liked it. I never knew it had actual spy stuff in it. However, I can no longer say I've never seen a Bond movie.

Burned
Ali and I rarely get sick and never have emergencies*. The last time she was in the ER was when she got pneumonia over 10 years ago and my last time was maybe 1990 when I was discharged because I didn't even need stitches. Other than that, I most recently was there with a friend and spent most of the time in the waiting room. So today, when Ali burned her hand at work and we headed off to the black hole that is "Urgent Care", we left thinking, "How does this work!?"
First of all, there is nothing urgent about Urgent Care facilities. We all know this. Today we spent about 40 minutes in the lobby of one while the receptionist called our work to ask about workman's comp procedures before we were told we had to go somewhere else. Excuse me, what? Drive to another Urgent Care place? Well, it turns out we were directed somewhere totally wack that only handles spinal injuries. This is where we were met by complete cunts who informed us that they were not an urgent care facility and did not take walk ins. Yes, thanks, bitch, but where is an urgent care place? At least offer the girl with a burned hand a cold compress! They also told us that to see anyone we would need an attorney, a claim number, and an adviser. Again, they're really taking the urgency out of our afternoon.
From here we decided to give up on finding a place our company approved of and headed to the Fairfax Inova ER...oh, but can it ever be that easy**? A woman in the parking lot stopped us, apologized for being nosy, and told us to contact her law firm because they deal with workman's comp cases and we should really get an attorney before we're screwed by "the man". OMG.
Fairfax Inova was awesome. Not only did they give Ali a cold compress in triage, but they expressed concern and sympathy for her pain. We told them our story and that they are our favorite, which I think made the guy making Ali's ID bracelet happy.
What I don't get about emergency rooms is that to me, an emergency involves blood, or broken bones, or babies coming too soon, or people with pains in their sides who think they have appendicitis, or something that absolutely can't wait until the next day for one's regular doctor. I was under the impression that emergency rooms were not for people with general aches and pains, or sore throats, or nausea, or even burns that aren't 3rd degree. Ali and I tried not to go to the ER until it got to the point that we had to go somewhere and it was our last option (especially since our regular doctor was an hour away and her hand was hurting like whoa).
We ended up waiting forever, as is expected. Ali was getting her vitals taken when some woman decided I looked nice and started talking to me. This woman was not allowed to go into the room with her brother (who was having pains in his side) because of her behavior, as the nurse told her. She also asked me what I thought of Barack Obama (who's name she wasn't sure of) and who "that other guy is" and what I think about him. I sort of hated this woman.
After playing a quick game of musical chairs, Ali and I were alone again to wait and be loud and inappropriate in the waiting room. Luckily, we didn't have any unwanted guests and were called in at about 545ish (?). The doctor was awesome, as was the RN, and they had us in and out of there in about 20 minutes after assuring Ali she was fine and would feel better in a few days. Poor boo! Taking care of the co-pay was something else we had no idea about. I guess it's uninsured people who end up owing a ton, but it just feels weird to see a doctor in an ER and then pay a co-pay like you just had a check up. But Ali's fine and she's all bandaged up and adorable, as usual. Thanks again to FX Inova!
So that's what I did this afternoon. You?

The Radio's Hot Sun
Ali put blush on me while we drove from Kings Dominion to Richmond. It was a silly moment, but kind of gives you an idea of what our days together are like. We had headed to Kings Dominion early, but the luxury of a season pass combined with ass-hot temperatures led us to leave earlier than we had planned. It was pretty awesome, though, to ride rides for a few hours and not feel like we wasted our money. Those season passes are already paid for and made worth it. Now when we go, it's totally bonus cup time.
So since it was ass-hot, we went to Richmond to hit up American Apparel (I bought a slutty dress and a not so slutty dress), For The Love Of Chocolate (is that the name?) where I bought extreme dark chocolate for my mom and a macaroon for Ali and myself to keep us going until dinner. Then we got margaritas, which hit us harder than we had expected until we remembered we never had real lunch (just breakfast lunch-Sonic serves the full menu all day, suckers). As required, we then went to Sticky Rice for dinner where, as is becoming tradition, we tried to special of the day. Yumsies!
So You Think You Can Dance is super hott tonight. I missed the first two routines, and I'm tired, so I won't be recapping. I will say that I love Chelsie and Katee as well as all of the guys. I think Comfort needs to go because Courtney and Kherington are much better. On the guy's side, I'm afraid Mark will be leaving, which sucks because I like him a lot. In fact, I love all of the guys. Like, a lot.

Pueblo (Beach Boys)
I spoke too soon yesterday-Ali may work Tuesday, but she does not work on Wednesday! So, if you're looking for a Rose Girl on Wednesday, then check The OC, bitches. The thing about Ali/Scarlet trips is that no matter where we go or what we do, we have tons of fun. We're going to leave at 330am (4am), lament the fact that we get to Sonic before it opens, hang out on the beach, eat Thrasher's fries, ride some rides, swim, gossip, make lists, and crack up...a lot.
Random memory: I took Ali and her friend, Molly, to the The OC one year and while laying on the sand we saw these guys totally checking out this girl. She kept going into the water only up to her knees and then would splash water on herself. The guys ate this up so I, on a sort of dare (?), mocked her, in view of the guys, and with big movements started to splash water up on myself. She wasn't there anymore, so I wasn't making fun of her. It was more like we were testing the guys...and they failed. Ha, hilarious!
Oh, I am so excited!

A Punch Up At A Wedding (No No No No No No No No)
So what if it's been over a week since I got back from North Carolina...
In preparation for our trip to my cousin's wedding in North Carolina, Ali and I had a few things we put on the agenda to do: go to Sonic, drink a lot of coffee, take advantage of any and all open bars, and to look adorable in our dresses.
As if there was ever any doubt, we accomplished all of our goals. After leaving our house at 4am on Friday we got to the first open Sonic in Rocky Mount, NC at about 9am where we proceeded to order from the lunch menu. It felt weird to order cheeseburgers so early in the morning, but since we had already been up for 6 hours, we were ready for them.
Wilmington welcomed us at about noon where we found the Barnes and Noble for 50% off coffee and a map of the area. Eventually we made our way to our final destination of Southport where we checked into our sweet hotel and were given a bottle of wine and instructions for the evening from my cousin and her fiance.
The instructions gave us the info we needed for the evening's booze cruise/rehearsal dinner, which ended up being about 50 people drinking and partying on a boat before dinner at a local restaurant. Even though Ali and I both partook in the open bar, we were lame-os in comparison to some of the other people around. Let's just say that Ali and I began playing, "Name The Drunkest" at about 11pm.
Skipping over some of the details of the weekend in the interest of keeping this shorter than a novel, we took the ferry over to Bald Head Island at 330pm on Saturday. We had some time to waste before the ceremony at 5pm so Ali and I debated stealing a golf cart to go exploring. See, there are no cars on Bald Head Island and the only way to get around is by golf cart of trams. We got to the church via a tram, but once there, we were sorta stuck. We not only eyed the two abandoned golf carts on the road near us, but even got in the one and were about to turn it on when some woman came out of the church so we jumped out.
The ceremony was gorgeous of course, and I have to thank my two little cousins for helping me to not cry. I held it in while watching everyone walk down the aisle, but just as I could feel myself getting a little misty over it all, the little bambinas (4 and 2.5), broke from their little flower girl personas and I spent the rest of the ceremony willing them to be quiet along with their mom (my cousin). The little boos did such a good job walking down the aisle and standing there, but they're so young, they just don't even comprehend that it's a ceremony. My cousin looked gorgeous, of course, and wore an amazing dress that I practically drooled over. Ali and I think the minister forgot to tell us to sit back down after standing for the bride because we ended up standing for the entire ceremony-is that weird?
The reception, held just down there street was off the hook. Open bar all night (hellloooooo, rum!), amazing food, and a dance floor. Ali and I taught our aunt (the bride's mom) how to verb and seriously cut a rug out there. (I think my feet STILL hurt. But hey, we looked super cute out there.) I even participated when my cousin tossed the bouquet. (Her maid of honor caught it-does it always work out that way? haha!)
We left the island at 11 to catch the last ferry towards the mainland and to go crash since we had to get up at 330am to head back. I, of course, had forgotten I had to play in a concert and needed to be back by 130. The ride back was brutal. Not that we didn't have fun, because of course we did, but because I was beyond exhausted and had to keep eating/drinking/talking/smacking myself in the face to stay awake. Sonic at 8am helped as did the Starbucks later on. And I made it back just in time:)
All in all...an amazing weekend. Check out my pics!
