I've been doing a lot of living lately, so while I have a ton of stuff to write about here, I'm just too busy to do so. You know what that means? A list!
+ Ali and I went to Chicago to see Nathaniel graduate from Navy basic training. I am so extremely proud of him and ecstatic to have him as my brother-in-law soon.
+We met Kristin, who is awesome and it was one of the best first meetings ever. It didn't hurt that she took us for wicked good pizza at the original Unos.
+I drove 14 hours straight on Sunday and my foot was sore for days. I'm kinda proud of it, though.
+I own a lot of DVDs. And CDs.

Rain Song
It poured today. The rain often reminds me of when I was a lifeguard because, to a lifeguard, you're always excited for a good storm. I used to be the best at spotting storm clouds in the distance and we would just wait for it to roll in and we would all keep our eyes pealed for lightning and our ears were on alert for thunder. The disappointment when a storm would pass by was high. As long as we were on a thunder or lightning then our jobs were so easy and usually the families would leave and we would get paid to hang out.
That's what rain reminds me of.
There were some days when it would storm and the swimmers would all leave and we would just hang out and read all day. We would set up the chaise lounges, cover up with beach towels, and read books and magazines for hours. I LOVED those days. One of us (usually me) was always on alert, though, for a patron or, even worse, a board member, but we usually could hear the cars coming down the gravel road and we'd jump up and pretend to be cleaning something. I worked my ass off at that job otherwise, though, so I figured some rest was okay every once and awhile.

All They Ever Do Is Talk
I was reminded of something I wrote several years ago on gossip. 2005...here it is:
The other topic on my mind, and most others, recently is gossip. I'm not in the mood for paragraph writing so instead, I will post my thoughts in list form:
1. Spreading lies on purpose is always wrong
2. Breaking someone's trust is also bad
3. Being aware of your surroundings and surrounding people is good
4. Couldn't it be considered worse to go around totally unaware of anything that is going on instead of talking with friends about other friends and acquaintences? I think so, perception is a good thing. Refer to #1 though.
5. I don't want anyone thinking they can't trust me. I want to know your business as much as, sometimes more, than the next guy. I think this goes along with being inquisitive and perceptive and it probably doesn't hurt that I'd really love to be a spy;) But I have a lot of things that I'm taking to the grave with me and I know a secret when I'm told one. I would be devestated if a friend felt they couldn't trust me with a secret.
6. I can't really think of a single person who hasn't been interested in another person's life at some point
7. I tell one person pretty much everything. And it's not who most people would think it is. Here are some clues though so he/she will know who he/she is: captain oats...actually, that might be enough!
8. If you don't want to be gossiped about, don't air your bidnis (business) all over. And don't commit #1 because then whatever is said about you is deserved.
9. It's hard for me to consider talking with friends gossiping. Now, if they go and tell that to other people then yeah, it's a bad chain that is being made.
10. definitions of gossip:
A.Rumor or talk of a personal, sensational, or intimate nature.
B. A person who habitually spreads intimate or private rumors or facts.
C. Trivial, chatty talk or writing.
D. A close friend or companion.
Let's keep it as C and D, ok? "A" has too much of a negative conotation. "B" can be applied to #1.
I don't really feel the same way about everything I said before. Something I really hate is when someone is hypocritical so I don't want to say too much because I definitely talk about other people and don't want to get mad that others gossip about me. Sometimes it really is different, though. I want this to be an exact science, but it's not. I do feel like some people gossip in a very malicious way, while others may be working more like #4 and #6. There are times when I'm out with a large group of friends and I can't keep track of everything going on. Is it so bad to later want to know what was going on?
I'm talking in circles and that's where the lack of exactness comes in.
I dunno....

We're Going To Be Friends
It's easy to make negative lists..."I hate..." "I don't like..." and, of course, I'm prompted to make those when someone or some thing irritates me. It's better to be positive, though, so here goes:
Things People Do That I Like:
+ Smile when they see me
+ Leave me notes
+ Text/Call/Email me
+ Are understanding
+ Drive me somewhere
+ Make me a mix CD
+ Laugh at my jokes
+ Make me laugh
+ High fives!
+ Remember inside jokes
+ give me their tomatoes

Up All Night
I had a fantastic weekend!
Actually, it's been pretty kick-ass since Wednesday when Ali and I went to the 930 Club to see The Presets. We danced our asses off and I promise to post pics as soon as I can.
Friday night Ali and I went to Richmond because for a school project she had to go somewhere that showed Russian culture. Ali, being the awesome person she is, found a Russian bar and I was more than happy to accompany here there. It took us forever to get down there in the abysmal Friday traffic on 95, but we made it to Sticky Rice before they stopped serving food and didn't even have to wait! I <3 Sticky Rice. I miss living two blocks from it. After dinner we went over to my brother's store, Turnstyle to say hello to him and Jobeth. We had missed art walk, but heard it was really good.
Jobeth warned us that Aurora, the Russian bar, gave her a hard time about dress code before so she and Jesse gave us business cards so we could name drop if we needed to. We were both wearing sneakers and I had jeans on so we were a little worried when we walked up to the door. Luckily, I didn't have to pull the "We're with WRIR" card and we were let in just fine. I saw what Jobeth meant, though, as 90% of the girls there were dressed to the nines. Some were down right trashy. One girl wore an extremely tight white (!!) dress that probably seemed like a good idea, but the execution was a little frightening. There were a lot of shiny dresses and all the girls were either wearing heels or were barefoot because they had taken their heels off*.
We got pictures of us drinking Russian beer and of the crowds for Ali's project and then headed out. We were there awhile and while we didn't get our dance on too much, I would definitely go back. The bartender remembered my first and last name even though I only got one beer. I was impressed.
Saturday I worked and then just headed home because I was tired and no one was really doing anything. I settled in to read some magazines and was watching Baby Mama on HBO** when I heard from Ali that she was considering going back down to Richmond to go to Jesse's party Bliss at the new club, Rendezvous on Broad Street in Richmond. She was going to wait for Nick to get off of work at about 1130pm and then head down there. I'm not sure why, but I agreed to go even though I was already tired and had to work at 9am the next day. My brother throws awesome events and it's good to support family so I went to sleep until Ali called me at about midnight to say she and Nick were on their way. I got there at about 1:40am and Ali and Nick walked in not long after. We had a lot of fun before the event was over at 3am. We danced it up and cheered on Jesse and Jobeth as they took turns spinning.
We had decided last minute that I should drive separately and it's a good thing I did. I left after the club closed and got home at about 445am...just in time for a couple hours of shut eye before I had to get up for work. Nick and Ali ended up hanging out with her friend Tim for a few more hours and got back way later than I did.
Today at work wasn't even as brutal as I expected it to be. I guess having fun brings on a different kind of tired:)
I hope you all had awesome weekends, too. I guess I should hope for you to have as awesome a family as I do since they were key parts of my great times.

*I hate that. If you can't keep them on, then don't wear them.
**Horrible. Such a bad movie. I only made it about 30 minutes in. The jokes were obvious and forced.
