Oh, George

My mom and I went out for the day today to hang out, relax, and have fun. We headed to Old Town Alexandria which is where she and my sister had gone a few weeks ago. Without getting all detail-y on you, I got some Scottish shortbread*, two pairs of jeans, and a crabcake sandwich and fries at the Fish Market. I was extremely irritated with Mother Nature today as she somehow got the wrong memo about November 1st and began one of my favorite months with weather in the 70s. My body has already winterized so I felt hot all day long which was NOT fun. I brought my scarf and didn't get to wear it until the sun went down. Tragic I tell you!

We also visited my dad at his office and he surprised us with a pass to Mount Vernon to get in for free. His electrical company did all of the wiring there so we got to feel like celebrities as we bypassed lines and didn't pay for anything. I had not been there since I was a wee lil' one so it was fun to take it all in as an adult. I LOVE to go through places like that where you get to see restored rooms that famous people actually lived in. We saw the bed George Washington died in! That's crazy! It was also gorgeous with the leaves still in their peak so I got some good pictures**. It was also interesting to realize that my junior year college dorm (Custis Hall)) was named for Martha Washington's maiden/first husband's*** name.

Fun-filled day:) Beats working...

*Because who doesn't like things with "pure butter" on the packaging?
**Will be posted later. Dial-up sucks!
***Now I can't remember which.

Maiden name. Read Mary Higgins Clark's Mount Vernon Love Story. It's delightful.
