All right, you remember the drill- it's Radiohead bracket time!
"Codex"
Slight of hand
Jump off the end
Into a clear lake
No one around
Just dragonflies
Flying to the side
No one gets hurt
You've done nothing wrong
Slide your hand
Jump off the end
The water's clear
And innocent
The water's clear
And innocent
(2011. King of Limbs)
A bit of an atmospheric beginning that turns into basic chords. Later in the song the two combine. I love how Thom Yorke's voice sounds in this one. One of those ones where his voice really connects with the accompaniment quite well.
"You"
You are the sun the moon and stars
Are you...and I could never run away from you
You try at working out chaotic things
And why should I believe myself? Not you
It's like the world is gonna end so soon
And why should I believe myself?
Yeah...
You, me, and everything
Caught in the fire
I can see you drowning
Caught in the fire
(1993. Pablo Honey)
This is an earlier song and is more rock, but I like the melody a lot. It's also funny because this is one of the few songs where I can actually understand what he is singing. That doesn't happen often! I love when he sings out the "YEAHHHHHH!" and it soars above the guitars. This song also does a good job with the soft vs loud.
And the winner is...
This one is pretty tough. Do I go with the pretty atmospheric song or the more classic rock song? As much as I love his voice at times in Codex, I'm going to pick...
You.
