Days Were Golden

The Golden Globes are tonight and I am quite excited. I have seen several of the films, watch a lot of the tv shows, and really love some of the nominees. So, here is each category with my picks/wants.

Best Motion Picture Drama:

• Black Swan
• The Fighter
• Inception-This movie took over when it came out. Amazing. I hope it wins.
• The King's Speech
• The Social Network- I think this one might win since it won the Critic's Choice

Best Actress In Drama:

• Halle Berry
• Nicole Kidman
• Jennifer Lawrence
• Natalie Portman-If she doesn't win, then I really hope Michelle Williams does.
• Michelle Williams

Best Actor In Drama:

• Jesse Eisenberg
• Colin Firth- He was amazing, though.
• James Franco- PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE WIN!!!

• Mark Wahlberg

Best Comedy/Musical:

• The Kids Are All Right- I didn't even see this and know it should win.

• Emma Stone- I'd love to see her take it:) But I think Annette Bening or Julianne Moore gets it.

• Kevin Spacey- No idea, but maybe he'll get it?

Television

One of my pet peeves is when someone declares, "I don't watch television" like they are holier than though and instantly smarter than anyone who does watch it. Sometimes these people are still normal and they just spend their time doing other things. Often, though, this person has no clue about pop culture and can't hold a conversation with half the people they encounter.

I also get annoyed when someone says they don't watch TV, but he/she watches three movies a day. How is that any different?

Or hulu. If you watch television shows online, you still watch TV. It's a television show. You're just watching it on a different screen.

I have my TV on most of the time when I am home, but you know what? I multitask. Rarely am I sitting here just staring at the screen*. I like the noise and the connection to the outside world.

SO yeah, that's a pet peeve of mine.

I started watching How I Met Your Mother from the very beginning last night and I love love love it! I had seen it before-whenever I was around when it came on, but never from the beginning.

Top 7.5 Reasons Why I Love This Show:

6. Quick, witty dialogue. It's like a fix for my lack of Gilmore Girls.

4. The Freaks and Geeks guy.

1. They're constantly meeting up at the bar. "Meet me in 15. Suit up!"

I Am The Killer

I watched the Season 2 premiere of Dexter earlier this evening and I have to say that this show is so awesome. I had actually only previously seen the first four episodes on Netflix and was worried that skipping ahead would cause me to miss too much, but it's so good that it doesn't matter. I love Michael C. Hall in this part. His voice overs are perfection and I find myself laughing at the most inopportune times (you know, like when he kills someone.) I don't even know where to begin with analyzing it so I don't think I will. This season, based on the previews, looks to be effing amazing, though.

Does anyone else watch?

Push It

The Top Eight Dance!

Sara and Danny:

I think their first dance was smokin'. The Argentine Tango is sexay and hott merely by definition and add in those boots and it ends up being one super cool dance. I do get sick of seeing Danny do turns in every single dance. YES, We know he can do them well. The human pretzel thing was awesome.

I love love loved that they used Salt-N-Pepa for their hip hop. And I don't care what anyone says, those costumes were perfect for the dance. I found some of their moves just too cheesy, though, and I'm not sure if that was the 90s feel or just cheesy moves. I think they should get bonus points for air brushed shirts!

Dominic and Lauren:

In the Krump routine I was excited that they danced to 50 cent! Or 25 Pence as Nigel called him. I loved how the choreography picked out all of those bass beats in the music. Very cool! And I do think Lauren did an awesome job covering up that fall.

I do have to agree that I still don't know what the Rumba is. The dance is really good, but it does seem to be a lot of poses. I don't mind, though, I loved it! Minus the costuming, it reminded me of what could have been an extra scene from Dirty Dancing. And after hours dance, of course. And HOLY HELL they totally kissed at the end of that. That got my vote. Wow!

Lacey and Neil:

Didn't see their first dance bc of the breaking news report. I do think it's important to break in with important news, but they showed it for way too long.

Okay, yes this piece was sentimental and pretty, but the dancing did not catch me. It got me because of seeing the people afterwards who were crying. It seemed as though the judges couldn't have critiqued had they wanted to since it was so special to Mia Michaels.

Sabra and Pasha:

I don't like the Broadway dances. Maybe because I'm not a big fan of musicals with lame dances*. I am also getting sick of Sabra. Yes, she's good, but she's not God's gift and I find myself hoping she gets poor critiques. I like Pasha, but he still doesn't stand out for me.

Sick.of.Sabra. I am glad this Quick Step isn't boring, though. The costumes were great! I think they did a good job with this dance. I never ever ever want to dance a Quick Step.


So who will be sent home tonight? I have NO idea, but my guesses are:

Pasha and Sara (Although I can totally see any of the guys going home, to be honest.)





*I like the ones like Cabaret and Chicago. The more gritty ones.

Death Of A Party

I am not good with endings. That said, tonight's series finale of Gilmore Girls is not sitting well with me. I just read the Post's article on the finale, where they say it may end with more of an ellipse than something more final like a period or exclamation point.

This has me worried.

I remember when My So-Called Life ended abruptly and we, a bunch of teens, were left not knowing how the story played out. Conversy, when Friends ended, I thought they did a great job tying up loose ends and leaving its fans satisfied*. I am guessing tonight's finale will be somewhere in between. One of those unfortunate instances where it was filmed as a season finale, but is being used to end the show.

I'm not ready to say goodbye, though! I was watching some of season 4 earlier today and was reminded over and over with how awesome this show is. I'm going to do a tribute post in the near future, when I can just kind of go over the cool things from the past 7 seasons. Oh, and feel free to make fun of me...I'm okay with it:)

Static On Channel 4

After two years together, I thought I could trust you. I thought you knew me and what I needed out of our relationship and I never in a million years thought you would do this to me.


How on earth could you not tape Gilmore Girls, TiVo?!


I get home from orchestra rehearsal and settle down with my dinner to enjoy an hour of Stars Hollow wit and banter and what do I get instead? Channel 4 news?? It pains me to even type out the words. And taunting me with the episode's summary. That was low, TiVo. Really low.

And what really shows me that our relationship is in trouble is the fact that you were taping Boston Legal when I got home at 10pm. Really? Do I watch any lawyer shows now that The Practice is over? No, I do not. Do I have William Shatner on my keyword list for shows to tape? Oh no no no, I do not. To tape Boston Legal and not The Bourne Identity, which was on at the same time, really shows me how little you know about me.

You've been warned, TiVo. Shape up...or else.
